The venue had more opinions than most venues do. We agreed with them.

Every room is already a shape — a curved sand-coloured stair, a fluted vault, a clover cut in a rust wall that throws a moving patch of light across the floor all afternoon. The rule for the whole week was that no piece of décor was allowed to sit in front of one of those.

The wedding

Ivory, gold and green, held to a garden approach lined with cypress and a mandap that stopped at shoulder height. Petal cannons on the varmala, and dry ice on the walk out — the two moments where a clean palette earns some theatre.

The haldi

The opposite end of the same week: marigold by the basket, colour smoke, and a shaded lawn set for people to sit on the floor rather than at tables.

The sangeet and the reception

Ice-blue and gold against a lit arch run in red and warm white, confetti timed to the entry. The reception moved indoors and dropped to black tie, a champagne tower and neon — the same couple, a different building, on purpose.
